Note: The term "later decline" in this reading list refers to a comparison with earlier masterpieces. Except for a few titles that truly falter in the later stages, most novels maintain a standard above average as the story progresses. This is quite common; authors usually have clear outlines and detailed plans in the beginning, but as they get busier later on, it’s impossible to replicate that same level of excellence.
