The mental disconnect in Ye Yan is fascinating. He’s born into this new body, but his mind is still that of a cold-blooded killer. He doesn’t understand emotions like fear or empathy from a personal perspective, but he’s driven by this programmed devotion to "mother." When the elf shields him, he’s confused by the warmth. It’s like his emotional core is shattered but still has this ghost of longing.
The twist that Guilford is now smitten with his wife and kid changes the original narrative completely. It makes me wonder how the rest of the story will unfold. Will Emeria trust him again?
I really appreciate that the "child of destiny" Lin Fan isn't some badass from the start. He comes off as a total idiot here. He completely misreads the situation, charges in to defend a woman who didn't need it, and gets his ass handed to him by a single guard. It breaks the typical "he's poor but righteous and invincible" mold for the early chapters. It makes me think his rise is going to be a long and bloody one, which is way more compelling.
