The Big White Snake is the mother of the three little snakes. She has developed intelligence earlier than normal snake-kind, possibly by consuming spiritually rich bird eggs. She provides for her children by stealing snake-catcher bird eggs, delivering them to the cave in two batches. She communicates with simple hisses and body language, showing affection toward Xu Chengxian for his alertness. When a flock of snake-catcher birds attacks the cave, she appears from the river and engages them in battle, striking the first bird that digs at the entrance. She wraps around its neck and grapples with the other birds. She is protective and courageous, willing to risk her life for her offspring. She is a supporting female character.
