The patriarch of the Chu silk merchant family in Jiangnan. He ran a prosperous business but was framed by a corrupt official when he refused to cooperate in exploiting silkworm farmers. He and his entire household, except Chu Qingcheng, were executed. His death is the central tragedy of Chu Qingcheng's past.
