The Old Scholar is an unnamed elderly man who visited the village when Jiang Nan was born. Her father asked him to name the child, and he changed "Jiang Huahua" to "Jiang Nan", which later proved to be a name that symbolized intelligence and freedom. Though he appears only in memory, he holds cultural significance in the family narrative and is regarded as a learned figure.
