Steward Chen is the steward of the second branch of the Ruyang Bo Mansion. He is pragmatic and tries to keep the peace by avoiding open conflict. When the old woman (Zhang Ma) blocks the entrance with the carriage, he initially tries polite persuasion but soon becomes stern. He reports Wen Mingqian's return to both Concubine Song and Gong Xu. He is loyal to Concubine Song and follows her orders, but he also respects that Wen Mingqian is still the legal Madam in name.
