the soldier who made the fire
An unnamed soldier who helps gather dry cow dung and withered grass to start the small bonfire at night. He works under the Old Squad Leader's direction to provide a flicker of warmth in the harsh cold. He probably also helps shield the flame from the wind. His labor ensures the group has some heat and light for cooking and morale. He represents the resourcefulness and hard work of the common soldier. He does not speak but his actions are vital for survival. He is part of the collective effort that allows the team to rest and recover, however minimally, for the next day's climb.
