The Village Head (Old Master Chen) is the father of Chen Dabao, Chen Ermei, and Chen Damei. He is weak‑willed and prioritises financial interests. He agrees to reward Jiang Ming with his daughters and rice but reneges when Jiang Ming appears dead. He allows his son to marry Ermei off to the Jia family. He tries to compensate Jiang Ming with only 20 catties of rice. He is superstitious and easily swayed.
