Xiao Ziqian is the male protagonist, a general returning from the borderlands with a rescued woman, Lin Rou'er. He is hot-tempered and often cruel to Song Yaoshi, but is bound by an imperial marriage. He struggles with his feelings and is easily manipulated by Lin Rou'er's innocence.
