Xie Fanxing, the heiress of Hangzhou’s Yong’an Real Estate, is trapped in an arranged marriage to Liang Yushan of Haisheng Decoration. The engagement is a business alliance established by their grandfathers. Liang Yushan is unfaithful, openly carrying on an affair with Xie Fanxing’s university roommate Zhou Feier. After catching them in bed at her own apartment, Xie Fanxing calmly records the evidence and decides to break the engagement.

Three days after returning to China from a short trip to Thailand, she meets with Liang Yushan’s mother Huo Jintang, presenting proof of the infidelity. Huo Jintang agrees to dissolve the engagement after Old Master Liang’s seventieth birthday banquet to avoid public scandal. At the banquet, Xie Fanxing arrives in a red qipao, enduring gossip from wealthy wives. Liang Yushan appears with Zhou Feier, who has staged a fake hit-and-run accident to frame Xie Fanxing. Liang Yushan accuses Xie Fanxing of orchestrating the attack and demands to break the engagement to marry Zhou Feier. Old Master Liang is furious, beating Liang Yushan with his cane. Huo Jintang and Liang Yuxin defend Xie Fanxing, exposing the manipulation. The banquet descends into chaos.

In the midst of the turmoil, the arrival of Huo Qingzhou is announced. Unbeknownst to Xie Fanxing, he is the man she spent a passionate night with in Thailand, mistaking him for a male escort. Huo Qingzhou is the true prince of the Huo family, head of HX Group and vice president of Huo’s Tingheng Company. He is a former military captain who retired early, a reclusive billionaire. He has been searching for the woman who left him, and now he steps into her life with full force.

The story centers on Xie Fanxing’s empowerment. Suffering from childhood psychological trauma, she is slow to trust but fiercely independent. She refuses to be a victim of the arranged marriage. She survives the broken engagement, uses her own investments and savings to rebuild her life, and retaliates against every injustice. Liang Yushan and Zhou Feier face consequences for their scheming. Xie Fanxing’s resilience attracts Huo Qingzhou, who pursues her relentlessly. Despite the age gap of six years and the difference in their status, their bond deepens. Huo Qingzhou supports her unconditionally, protecting her from salvage attempts by the Liang family and her own father, who wants to use her for business gain.

As the engagement dissolves, Xie Fanxing stands firm. She does not beg or yield. Huo Qingzhou, once a charming but hot-tempered lover in Thailand, now reveals his true identity. He pursues Xie Fanxing with patience and devotion, determined to be her only man. The story is a double-clean pure love with an older male lead, where the female lead retaliates on the spot and the male lead is entirely love-obsessed. They become each other’s first and last love, navigating the treacherous waters of family betrayal and corporate rivalry. In the end, Xie Fanxing chooses her own path and finds true love with Huo Qingzhou, the man who fell for her at first sight and waits for no one else.

30. Final thoughts: This novel is addictive if you go into it craving drama and emotional payoff. The characters are mostly archetypes but with enough personality to engage you. Xie Fanxing is a compelling leading lady who doesn’t grovel, and the brewing Huo Qingzhou subplot promises tension. The writing shows room for improvement (some dialogue stiff, some info dumps) but the pacing and emotional beats work. I’m hooked and want to see if she finds real love after the shallow fool.

2 The constant reference to the male lead being “older man” in the ps shows the author knows what audience they’re writing for. I do appreciate that it’s clearly tagged—it lowers any confusion. The 6-year age gap isn’t massive but feels mature. I’m curious if there’s going to be a power struggle or mentorship thing between them? Or is he going to be obsessively doting? Given the “love brain” tag, probably the second.

2 The supporting characters are not as fleshed out as the leads, which is typical for this genre. The best friend, Sheng Xia, is mentioned but not yet featured. I hope she becomes more relevant because Xie Fanxing could use an ally. Similarly, Liang Yushan’s father is barely present. I’d love to see more family dynamics, especially with how the stepmother plots against the female lead. That could add layers of intrigue.

2 The story is definitely walking a line between fast-paced romance and emotional depth. At times, I want it to slow down and let Xie Fanxing have more internal monologue or moments of weakness. But other times, I’m enjoying the quick, snappy drama. I think for readers who enjoy instant gratification with strong female leads, this is satisfying. For those who prefer detailed psychological arcs, it might feel a bit shallow.

2 I know people hate when the mysterious hero turns out to be the one-night stand from the start, but honestly? I’m here for it. The tension between the millionaire male lead and the strong-willed, betrayed heroine is classic. I hope his identity reveal carries a lot of drama and maybe a few scenes where he’s jealous of Liang Yushan. The “little cowherd” nickname is so cute and teasing—it would be fun if it continues as a private joke.

2 There’s an undercurrent of class tension here that I find interesting. Xie Fanxing is from a wealthy family but one that’s declining. The comments from other guests like “a pretty face is useless” and “she’s a poor catch” show how reputation is linked to money. The author uses these as micro insults to remind us she’s trapped in a society where worth is tied to business success. Makes her break-up feel even more brave.
