30. I’m worried that the MC will become too overpowered too fast, especially if dual cultivation with the Master’s Wife instantly gives him super strength. The early kill on two Yellow-rank fighters already makes him feel OP for a beginner. I hope there’s some gradual power progression, otherwise the revenge against a rich family might feel less satisfying because there’s no real struggle.

2 This is definitely not high literature. The prose is simple, the characters are archetypes, and the plot is as straightforward as a revenge checklist. But it’s a page-turner. I started reading this and didn’t stop until the car crash scene, which is way more than I can say for a lot of premium novels. Sometimes you just want guilty pleasure action.

2 The revenge target – Yang Liancheng – looks like he’s just chilling after the murder, unaware that his victim is back and already killed his cousin. That’s the kind of dramatic irony I eat up. The reader knows the storm is coming, but the villain is preparing his birthday party. It builds anticipation nicely for the big showdown.

2 The second chapter uses a lot of exposition through dialogue, like Wang Kui and Yang Lianhu just explaining their plans out loud. It feels unnatural, but it serves the plot. I’m not sure if the author can write natural conversation later. The exchange between Chen Xiaochuan and Wang Kui after the crash was better, with the sarcasm and the fake politeness.

2 I noticed the novel uses a lot of exaggerated internal monologue, like “images from adult films flashed through his mind” and “he would demonstrate them personally.” It’s a bit cringe, but it fits the MC’s initial character as an inexperienced, horny college grad. After the betrayal, that tone completely shifts, which I actually thought was effective.

2 The fight scenes so far are super one-sided, but that’s fine because it’s the revenge power fantasy. Yang Lianhu and Wang Kui didn’t stand a chance. I just hope the future fights against Yang Liancheng and his family have some choreography and tension, not just “MC punches head off.” Variety is nice.

2 I wish the author had given us a little more insight into Chen Xiaochuan’s pre-death personality. What was he like as a student? What made him trust Guo Yujiao so blindly? We got a few lines about him thinking he was Prince Charming, but that’s it. A flashback of their six relationship months might have made the betrayal sting more for the reader.

2 I have a soft spot for revenge stories where the hero doesn’t magically forgive the girlfriend. Guo Yujiao is definitely going to get hers, and I’m here for it. The way she called the MC a “poor loser” with no background while he was dying... that’s the kind of line that makes readers root for bloody karma.

2 The world-building hints: Sacred Hand Sect, Yellow-rank martial artists, Soul Severing Cliff, the Four Great Families of Qingyun City – it’s all very standard xianxia fare, but the execution feels a little more grounded than usual because we start in a modern-ish hotel with credit cards and luxury cars. I like the mix of modern and cultivation tropes, it’s fresh.

2 The whole “Yang Raising Grass” subplot is ridiculous but kinda genius. It’s a cheap way to show that the villains are pathetic even in their off-screen lives. Yang Liancheng has a ten-second problem? That’s just humiliating. And the irony that his cousin died trying to get him a stamina herb is almost poetic.

20. So what’s the deal with the Master’s Wife? She’s been waiting for 2000 years, has a cultivation technique that works in a spirit-depleted era, and seems keen on getting the MC up to speed fast. But she’s also a spirit or something, with limited awake time. I hope she becomes a recurring character and not just a one-chapter power-up dispenser. She’s got charisma.

1 I actually appreciate that the MC doesn’t immediately return to Qingyun City all powerful and start blasting. He’s taking his time, gathering a little money, dropping a hit. That feels more realistic for a revenge story. He’s not invincible yet, just strong enough to bully low-tier thugs. That makes the upcoming confrontation with Yang Liancheng more tense.
