Lin Lang transmigrates into the body of Shen Mingzhu, the cherished legitimate daughter of Chancellor Shen. Lying on an exquisite sandalwood canopy bed carved with flowers and painted with birds, the original owner opens her eyes revealing crystal clear glass like eyes. The room has the finest cyan silk gauze curtains gently fluttering in the breeze. A triangular bronze incense burner in the corner emits faint smoke filling the air with a refreshing plum blossom fragrance. The system tells her to close her eyes and receive the plot. Lin Lang receives the memories. The original owner was the apple of the Shen family eye possessing the highest level status in the capital. Her father was the Chancellor her mother the legitimate second daughter of the Grand Tutor and a princess and her aunt the Empress herself. The Empress and the Emperor were a loving couple and she even had a cousin the Crown Prince who always protected her since she was little. She lived in a honey pot since childhood. Despite these top tier resources the original owner squandered her life stubbornly waiting for Jiang Tingfeng. She learned he joined the army and went to the border to fight and she was determined to wait for him. She thought it was a match made in heaven. He returned from the border in triumph but with a woman named Xie Aman who had saved his life and they had developed feelings for each other. He promised her the position of co wife. Rejecting all advice from her parents the Empress and literally everyone the original owner insisted on marrying him as a co wife. She watched him be lovey dovey with his other wife and raise several children while she grew old and died alone in the inner quarters. The original owner admits she was too silly and hopes Lin Lang accepts her life and is not as foolish. Taking over this life with the system Lin Lang finds the story pathetic. She vows to avoid this tragic fate. She touches her face feeling the delicate skin smiling at the taste of being alive. She finds herself surrounded by luxury. Qing Feng her head maidservant serves her bird nest soup and White Jade Cream a precious gift from the Empress. Lin Lang marvels at the wealth. Instead of grieving over Jiang Tingfeng return with Xie Aman Lin Lang analyzes the political situation. The original owner stubborn obsession had ruined the Shen family carefully laid political plans. The marriage was a power alliance binding the Jiang family military power to the Chancellor civil authority. The Emperor has long wanted to strip the Jiang family of their military power but lacked an excuse. The original owner by marrying in had become a hostage protecting the Jiang family from the Emperor wrath. Lin Lang decides to use the annulment as a weapon. She carefully prepares her appearance to look sickly and heartbroken. When Jiang Tingfeng visits the Shen residence to break off the engagement Lin Lang puts on a masterful performance of heartbroken grief. He confesses his love for Xie Aman who saved his life. Lin Lang covers her face with a handkerchief sobbing accusing him of ruining her life directly saying he was relying on his merits to abandon her. She threatens to die and runs outside. Her performance whips public opinion into a furious storm against the Jiang family. The whole capital knows Jiang Tingfeng is ungrateful. Once in her courtyard Lin Lang switches faces immediately throwing down her handkerchief and ordering the story to be exaggerated ensuring everyone knows Jiang Tingfeng heartlessness. Privately Lin Lang explains her true plan to her mother Madam Shen. They must step back. Instead of forcing the marriage they must leverage the public anger so the Emperor can take action against the Jiang family and seize their military command. This is the only way to keep her from becoming a political hostage and secure her freedom. Madam Shen realizes her daughter has grown up and agrees the Emperor has long been displeased with the Jiangs. The ready made excuse is now here. Panicking Old Madam Jiang whips her grandson ten times and orders him to apologize. She attempts to salvage the engagement by offering a concubine position to Xie Aman hoping to make Shen Mingzhu the main wife. The steward suggests this playing on the idea that Shen Mingzhu loves him so much she will agree. Jiang Tingfeng is torn between his promise of a single love to Xie Aman and the survival of his family. Xie Aman protests being a concubine. However Lin Lang has already outmaneuvered them completely. She and her mother have entered the palace to hold an audience with the Empress and the Emperor officially launching the political counter strike that will strip the Jiang family of their military power completely freeing Lin Lang from the obligation of this heartbreaking marriage and securing her independence from the fate she was originally doomed to.

This series of stories unfolds at a brisk pace, and while that can be thrilling, it often leaves me with a lingering sense of wanting more depth. Several narratives feel somewhat summarized, and at times, the main character (MC) is compelled to fulfill requests from the original stories in ways that may not align with her own choices or desires. As a result, some arcs tend to delve deeper into other characters, which can divert the focus from the MC and, at times, affect the narrative cohesion. What I particularly appreciate, however, is how the MC navigates her relationships. Unlike many other protagonists in quick transmigration (QT) novels, she finds herself entangled in romances with multiple lovers and husbands throughout her adventures. This portrayal feels refreshingly realistic and adds an intriguing layer to her character development. That said, I do have a few reservations. Certain story arcs draw heavily from fanfiction, which can be a double-edged sword. If you're unfamiliar with the source material or haven't watched the original shows, you might find yourself a bit lost when it comes to the context or specific references. This could diminish your overall enjoyment of the narrative. Additionally, in these arcs, the MC occasionally feels out of character (OOC), which may disrupt the reader's connection to her. In summary, while the series boasts an engaging premise with a unique take on relationships, it's worth being aware of its pacing and reliance on external narratives, as these elements can impact your reading experience.

30. Overall, this is shaping up to be a fantastic trashy, fun, revenge story. It's not high literature, but it knows what it is and executes it well. The characters are entertaining, the stakes are clear, and the heroine is likable and smart. I'd definitely read more to see if she successfully destroys the Jiang family and maybe finds a better love interest along the way.

2 One thing that bugs me: how did Lin Lang get so good at acting like a heartbroken maiden so quickly? She just transmigrated and immediately delivered an Oscar-worthy performance. It's a bit of a stretch, but I'm willing to accept it because the dramatic payoff was worth it. Seeing Jiang Tingfeng squirm was delicious.

2 The contrast between the "original owner" scenes and the Lin Lang scenes is night and day. The original owner was passive and melodramatic, while Lin Lang is active and practical. It makes the story feel like it has momentum. We're not stuck in a pity party; we're moving towards revenge and justice.

2 I love that Lin Lang isn't trying to hide her true personality from her mother. She just straight up tells Madame Shen about her plan to ruin the Jiang family. The trust between them feels genuine and earned. It's refreshing to see a mother-daughter duo that actually communicates in a genre that loves secret plots.

2 The detail about the original owner's hand beauty was strangely compelling. "Each finger like the finest green onion" is such a specific and slightly weird compliment, but it works in context. It establishes immediately that the original owner was physically pampered and beautiful, which makes her fall from grace even more tragic.
