Can we talk about the original novel's plot? It’s such a perfect parody of those "careful, my master is the demon lord" style stories. The FL helps the ML destroy her own sect, then tearfully forgives him for annihilating everyone she knew? And they lived happily ever after? That energy is so toxic, it makes Yun Xi trying to escape perfectly justified. She is literally running from a walking red flag factory.

I genuinely laughed out loud when she explained the uses of her new vine body. "Making clothes, hanging oneself, making small whips, and playing SM" followed by "a very versatile and cost-effective item". The fact that she was just a cannon fodder plot device in the original book who got turned into peace knots for the ML and his eighteen friends is just the perfect amount of ridiculous motivation to escape that fate.

The Realm Guardian is a top-tier side character. "I have always been diligent and would never secretly keep someone's great-grandmother," and "Maybe you'll be in time for your great-grandmother's second pregnancy." His deadpan roasting of her obviously fake story was the highlight of the opening chapter. You can tell he has dealt with hundreds of liars looking for treasure and is completely over it.

Cheng Jian Gui is the biggest loser sect master I have ever seen and I love him for it. He squats outside the realm for a month, argues with beggars, interrogates old ladies, and writes his will. When the main character shows up, he literally stuffs her in a sack. Him saying "Follow me. From today onwards, I am your Great-Grandmother" is the most unhinged recruitment pitch ever.

I love the little details in the background. The beggars outside the secret realm thinking Cheng Jian Gui is there to steal their business, and then competing with him to squat. Nine out of ten beggars collapsing. The last one leaving crying. It shows how insane the sect master looks to the normal people of the world without explicitly saying it.

Her power level is so pathetic it's charming. Ten meters of the cheapest vine per day. One spirit stone per meter. The shopkeeper telling her they use it to "feed pigs". The fact that she is so weak that she is considering cutting herself like leeks for cash. It makes the 200k spirit stone offer look like winning the lottery in the best way possible.

The author's modern humor mixed into the cultivation setting works so smoothly here. "A life of toil without rest; rest would only come with the mountains." "Social animal research scientist". "Died of overwork". The author perfectly translates millennial angst into a xianxia world. It makes her desire to just collect her salary from the crazy sect master feel super rational instead of greedy.

"Please fly more steadily; I think I'm getting car sick..." This line is the perfect representation of Yun Xi's character. She is in a life-or-death situation, stuffed in a sack by a Mahayana Stage cultivator, and her biggest concern in the moment is motion sickness. The sheer commitment to maintaining a casual tone during extreme circumstances is peak comedy.

The pacing is genuinely fire. It doesn't waste a single line. We get the absurd situation, the backstory of the original novel, the tragic fate of the body, the plan to escape, the failure, the kidnapping, and the deal, all in the first few pages. There’s no slow burn introduction here, it throws you directly into the chaotic vibes without any filler.

The Lingxiao Sect ancestor in the dream is hilarious. "You have led the sect from number one to the bottom." "The third disciple has a crippled Spirit Root and is a pervert." "Last time I told you to get a girl, you brought a little boy with mental issues." The ancestor is so fed up. It feels like a disappointed CEO yelling at the current management for running the company into the ground.

The gift exchange had me rolling. "Great-Grandmother, if you can't go on living, you can use this to hang yourself." "A hanging rope that sprouts." And then Cheng Jian Gui just accepts it and immediately uses it to tie her up. "You're quite good at reciprocating favors~". This is a master-student relationship that started on the most chaotic foot possible.

Cheng Jian Gui's character summary is deeply tragic. He has been trying his best for 900 years and failed. His four disciples are a sheltered rich girl, a sickly cripple, a pervert, and a crazy boy. This guy has the worst recruitment stats ever. No wonder he had to dreamwalk the ancestor to even get a new opportunity.
