The principal's father working in the education bureau is a stock corruption element. The story uses nepotism as a source of conflict, and the mayor's swift suspension of both shows that the higher-ups are on Luo Yingxue's side. It makes you wonder what kind of power she holds over the mayor. Is it financial? Blackmail? Or genuine respect for her abilities? The ambiguity is interesting.
The hospital scene with Teacher Wenrou (Rou? whatever) was weird. She’s supposed to be a caring teacher but she immediately believes the fall story and wants Xi Yang to thank his attackers. That’s not concern, that’s negligence. And the way she corrects him on calling her “teacher” felt forced – it’s like the author wanted to show cultural language differences but made it clunky.
I'm still trying to decide if Gu Qingfeng is an idiot or a villain. He fought in wars for eighteen years, but he never once checked on his son? And when he finally does, he thinks yelling will fix everything? The whole “I’ll pretend I never had this son” speech felt so fake. He didn't even know Gu Chen's name wasn't in the family tree. That detail was savage. Shows how little real care there was.
