The pacing in the first half with Lorin's daily struggles felt very grounded, but once the soldiers show up at the house, it speeds up drastically. The transition from him carrying cargo to being called "Your Highness" in a few hours is jarring. I get that it's a revelation, but it loses that gritty realism for a bit. I liked the slower start better.
