The fact that Leng climbed the eagle's back by grabbing its claws and then pulled its feathers to control it – that's not something a normal twelve-year-old would do. But that's why she's the protagonist. She's resourceful and fearless. I admire that even if it's unrealistic.
Li Wei flipping off the driver and running away is peak human response. I laughed out loud at that part. Here's this cosmic entity asking if he's ready to face fate, and his answer is an international gesture. His self-preservation kicks in, but also he's got a defiant streak that makes him likeable.
The subplot about the bar next door and the "rich woman" sponsor for Yang Meng seems like setup for future conflict. The detail about Huaqun Group’s boss's wife being dead for five years is a nice little clue that something shady is going on. It might tie into the larger business world that Jiang Li now has to navigate. I’m curious if this is foreshadowing or just world-building, but either way, it adds depth to the setting.
Granny Wei’s speech after the meal, telling the grandsons to treat Xing Xing as their sister, feels like a classic matriarch move. She’s already claiming her place in the family hierarchy. I’m half expecting some of the kids to bully her later anyway, just for drama.
