I have mixed feelings about the instant glue trap. On one hand, it's clever and shows Chu Liang using modern knowledge. On the other hand, it felt a little too convenient that he had the exact materials needed for that specific trap just lying around. Still, I'll forgive it because the payoff—Third Uncle getting caught and killed—was satisfying. The scene where he realizes Chu Liang isn't dying but is actually ready for him was a great reversal.
One thing that makes me roll my eyes a little is how all six fathers are apparently ridiculously handsome and powerful. It's a bit of a cliche at this point in the genre. But I'm willing to overlook it because their personalities are distinct enough. Hei Shang is cold and calculating, the gryphon is hot-headed, the fox is suave, etc. At least they're not carbon copies of each other. 2
Okay, I've gotta talk about Lin Xiu's three roommates: Haozi, Er Gouzi, and Lao Jiang. The way they were all leaning out the dorm window casually shouting "Lao Lin! You're not dead!" then immediately joking about how they were planning to take him out if he turned into a zombie? That was peak bro energy. And when they coordinated to open the gate and clear the zombies around the dorm? It's like they've been grinding zombie survival games their whole lives. I love how they're total chuunibyou otakus who are actually useful in a crisis. Their banter is gold—especially Er Gouzi yelling "Holy crap! You poked a zombie nest!" while dragging Lin Xiu back. It's refreshing to see side characters who aren't just dead weight. They actually have personality, even if they lean into the comic relief role.
Qiu Yi's lone wolf choice after warning everyone and being ignored felt true to his survival instincts. He's not a hero trying to save anyone; he's just trying to live. That makes him more relatable than the typical selfless protagonist. I hope he keeps that edge and doesn't suddenly become a moral paragon.
The system’s ten years of internal energy instantly healing Lin Tian’s wound was a bit too convenient. I get that it’s a power-up moment, but the wound had just been described as blown open by a Thunderclap Pearl. Maybe a bit of recovery time would have felt more earned. Still, I can forgive it for the sake of moving the plot along.
