The blood moon and the immediate mutation of 70% of humans was a solid opening. I really appreciated that he didn't wait around. The moment the countdown hit zero, the world went straight to hell. No slow burn “zombie outbreak” drama, just instantaneous global chaos.
The writing style in English feels a bit like a translation – some sentences are structured oddly (“Her lowered eyelashes were long and dark, making her skin look even fairer, with a hint of weakness.”) – but honestly, it adds a unique charm. It’s not clunky, just slightly formal in a way that fits the historical setting. The description of Shen Yunheng’s eyes “like a deep pool” and “fingertips tapping with composure” paints a vivid picture of authority.
Her decision to eat the food is a hard pivot. One minute she is starving to death, the next she is plotting and surviving. That snake bite gave her life and a brain reset. "I wanted to live; I didn’t want to die." Simple but powerful.
1 I am not convinced the "No contact" clause is going to stick. The moment she gets pregnant, the cultivation baby is going to cause all kinds of supernatural shenanigans.
The gryphon beastkin is basically me whenever someone hurts an animal. His immediate reaction to everything is "I'll kill their whole family" and honestly, same. He doesn't even hesitate, he's just ready to throw hands (or claws) at anyone who looked at the cub wrong. I appreciate a character who doesn't do moral gray areas when it comes to protecting family. 20.
