Meixiang Courtyard being near a dark alley is genius. It shows Chu You is always thinking ahead. The detail about checking gates and locks adds to her paranoid but practical nature. She’s definitely up to something.
Zheng Tianyou is such a sleazebag, I can't stand him. The way he switches from impatience to that fake gentle smile in a split second is disgustingly realistic. And calling her "my little ancestor" made me cringe so bad. You know a villain is well-written when you just want to reach into the page and slap them. His pathetic attempt to comfort her while thinking about the inheritance is peak hypocrisy. I hope An Min makes him pay big time.
The dog Jiu Tiao sleeping at the foot of the bed gets a small moment, but it already feels important. In the flashback, the dog died saving its owner, so seeing it alive and comfortable tugs at your heartstrings. I hope it survives this time.
The part where Shen Xing observes the martial artists bullying civilians on the street and nobody intervenes? That world detail is perfect. It immediately tells you the rule of law here is weak, and might literally makes right. It explains why those four thugs jumped him so quickly. Without that small scene, the alley ambush might have felt out of place, but it’s telegraphed perfectly. Good setup.
The casual discovery that Poison Ivy can fly and that the current generation of Meng Knights was nearly killed by it is just staggering to her. Her immediate internal thought being "should I just find a way to kill them off and let better ones spawn?" is so darkly hilarious. It's such a gamer mentality, "just reroll the hero." The system immediately penalizing her for "hostile intent" is perfect. It sets up the comedy of her being forced to be a helper when she'd rather just be a destroyer. It's a great source of dramatic irony because we know she's way more capable than she's letting on.
The split decision: clan leader threatens to remove from family tree if they don’t follow terms. That works because in ancient China, clan membership was crucial for examinations and social life.
