Su Yao and Zhang Hao showing up as the self-righteous "ambassadors of love" was so annoying - which means they were written well as characters I'm supposed to hate. The irony of her posting about feeding strays while her family probably causes problems is peak hypocrisy. Can't stand people like that.
It's smart that the author didn't over-explain the 'Zombie Sickness' in the first few chapters. We get the classic '3 days ago in Shibuya' backstory from Kousuke, but no fake scientific explanation. The MC is fine just guessing they work like in the movies (headshots work, no mutation from biting this early). This restraint builds mystery and keeps the focus on the character dynamics. The ecological experiment makes sense for a gamer, but the story doesn't force a science lecture on the reader. The high-fantasy elements (dragons) are just casually dropped in without explanation. The tone tells the reader: 'This is a genre mashup, don't stress about the logic of mutants, just enjoy the ride.' For a light novel, this is exactly the right approach. It trusts the reader to keep up with the absurd premise.
I’m curious about the Zhang family. They’re set up as this rival faction that bought the Ji family’s spirit vein at a low price. I’m guessing they’ll become major antagonists once Ji Haoyuan stabilizes his power. I hope the author gives them some depth instead of just making them generic villains.
Her shopping spree was fun but also exhausting to read. Like, I get that she needs supplies, but listing every single item she bought for pages started to feel like a grocery list. A summary would have worked better.
