1 The fight scene (if you can call it that) with the ghost messengers was short but impactful. Chang Ming is clearly super powerful, but she doesn’t flaunt it. I like that she handles business with a calm efficiency. The way she just handed over some paper money to get them to back off, and then took them out when they double-crossed her, shows she’s pragmatic but not naive. She’s not someone you want to mess with.
Let's talk about survival logic. Lin Xiu decides to stay in the dormitory instead of going to the teaching building because zombies would concentrate where crowds are. That's solid reasoning. And then Da Qing suggests luring zombies away from the dorm to kill them to avoid infection. That's also smart. I like that the characters are thinking ahead instead of just reacting. Even the humor doesn't undermine their survival instincts—they're joking around but still coordinating well. That's a balance not every apocalypse story manages. I'm also glad they immediately talk about gathering supplies from the small shop. They're not sitting around waiting for rescue. Competent protagonists with common sense? Yes, please.
The prose is straightforward and not flowery, which works for this kind of story. It's not trying to be literary; it's trying to be immersive and fast-paced. The dialogue is where the writing shines—every character has a distinct voice. Second Uncle's angry guilt, Third Uncle's greedy rationalizations, Zhao Hu's backhanded friendliness—they all sound like real people from a small village.
The action beats are described with economy. "He waved his hand, and a flame appeared out of thin air to light his cigarette." That one line establishes Li Gang's fire powers without a huge explanation. It's a neat way to include magic in a realistic setting. Similarly, "The rain seemed to momentarily freeze" for Zhao Xiangdong. It’s a powerful visual. The writer knows when to use long descriptions (the village meeting) and when to use short, visceral ones (the flame, the freezing rain). It keeps the visual language fresh and dynamic. I never felt like I was reading a wall of text. The author has a good sense of rhythm.
The description of the Fallen Angel Cathedral is gorgeous: black and red architecture, inverted cross, statues with different emotions. It’s dark and edgy but not over the top. The narrative emphasizes it’s a miracle barracks never before seen by any lord. That hype is infectious. I can already imagine the visual as an epic base for Su Ye’s future armies.
Overall, I’m enjoying this novel so far. It’s a fun, quick read with a unique protagonist. The zombie with a farming game system is a fresh concept. The humor and character dynamics carry it well. Some parts are a bit rushed (the month skip), but the core romance and action are entertaining. I’d recommend it to anyone who likes zombie apocalypse with comedy and a light romance. The characters are likeable, and the system has potential. Looking forward to more segments.
The conflict setup with the Red-feathered Hawks feels legitimately threatening. They group hunt, harass the territory, and even drive away prey to starve the dragons. Their caution about human involvement adds layers. I appreciate that they're not mindless beasts; they have strategy and hierarchy. Makes the upcoming confrontation more tense compared to if they were just aggressive birds.
Third Madam seems like the real villain here. The way she manipulated Jiang Ruohua into being docile and compliant as a "qualified Princess Consort" is so toxic. She was basically brainwashing the girl for her own benefit. I'm waiting for the confrontation where Jiang Ruohua calls her out on her schemes
There's a nice subtle detail when Li Xuan eats the Nine-Leaf Ganoderma and feels more energetic but isn't sure if it's psychological. That shows he's actually cautious even while accepting the gifts. His decision to save some for Xu Yan makes him not completely selfish.
That moment when the weed tries to catch insects but fails and then goes “I’ll let you off this time” made me laugh. The self-awareness is hilarious. It knows it’s weak, but it still tries to save face. Typical gamer attitude even as a plant.
