For a first chapter (or opening), this does a good job of establishing the protagonist’s motivation, the stakes, and the premise. The major weakness is the rushed transition from realistic drama to fantasy. The major strength is Hinami’s emotional journey and the tax driver moment. I’d say it’s a solid start that needs some polishing in how the isekai setup is delivered. If I were reading this on a web novel site, I’d probably continue to the next chapter to see what the other world looks like. I’m invested in Hinami enough to care. But I hope the author doesn’t forget about the original world and the sacrifice she made. That emotional weight should carry forward, not be discarded as soon as she gets to the forest. That’s my biggest hope for the rest of the story.
I appreciate that the author didn’t drag out the first confrontation. The slap, the argument, the return of the pendant, the space reveal—all within the same segment. It makes the reading experience feel very efficient and rewarding.
I gotta say, the way Mos fled through the tunnels was intense. The author did a nice job making me feel the panic and the physical exhaustion. The part where she notices her running posture changing and senses sharpening felt like a classic breakthrough scene. And then the claw attack on the black rat’s eyes—that was brutal but satisfying. She went from screaming about gender to killing a predator in seconds. Character development?
Xia Xiaonuan is a perfect antagonist in this context. Her desperation to climb the social ladder feels believable, even if her methods are over-the-top. The way she tries to play the victim when caught, using that innocent act, is so typical of the "green tea" female lead trope. The slap from Wen Tiantian was well-deserved, and I love how Wen Tiantian instantly turns the tables by accusing Xia Xiaonuan of seduction instead.
The unspoken trust between Ralph and Anna is beautiful. When he says 'Investigate', she doesn't ask why. She just accepts the order and moves. It implies a deep history of competence and respect that grounds the whole chaotic plot in a very mature working relationship.
The little girl seeing blank pages while the narrator sees text is a really cool way to hint that these are special books.
Lin Pingchuan grabbing a cleaver and saying he'll trade his life for his son's - that hit hard. Any parent would feel that desperation. His brother offering to stay and help, the sister-in-law bringing fish soup despite being scared herself. The family bonds feel real and grounded.
