I like that the protagonist can level up just by doing plant things like photosynthesis. Most isekai stories force you to kill things to get XP, so this was a refreshing change. It also makes sense for a weed—you grow by soaking up sun, not murdering bunnies.
The fight scenes are minimal and brutal. I expected more detailed action, but the writer focuses on the macabre solutions rather than epic battles. For instance, just sewing the ghost's mouth shut and pouring hot toothpicks into the baby ghost. That's so casually cruel it becomes comedic. It fits the character's detached personality.
Gu Yue's speculation about the Gaokao being reinstated shows he's not just a pretty face. He's thinking about national policy and planning ahead. This makes him a more interesting character, especially since Song Chu also realizes it's 1975 and starts thinking about textbooks. Their shared ambition for education and possibly scientific advancement could be a strong bond later.
The morgue scene is well done. Chen Cheng cutting locks of hair from each corpse with scissors, writing names on yellow paper – it’s creepy and ritualistic. Zhang Qian’s outrage feels natural. The forensic worker’s caution shows realism. The cold mist and numbered freezers create a good atmosphere.
The dream flashback to her being burned alive by that pair is chilling. It makes me immediately understand why she’s so desperate to avoid that future. Even if the “precognitive dream” trope is a bit worn out, the execution here feels urgent and personal, not just a cheap plot device.
I need to talk about the system's gossip function more because it's such a fun narrative device. The way it presents information with personal commentary and bias like "Karma is a bitch" or "Serves her right" makes it feel like the system has its own personality. It's not just a neutral database. And the MC reading it like she's scrolling through social media is so relatable.
I need to know what beast forms these cubs have. The story directly teases it at the end of one section which feels like a hook. Xia Xia is bear clan, Leo fox clan, Gacio wolf clan, Bernie and Boer gray rabbit, Hei Mo snake, Zhu Xia bear, Doris bird, Phil cat. Really diverse.
1 Fion Lange's dialogue is so cold and business-like. He doesn't ask how she's been or if she's okay. He just tells her she'll live there and he'll give her things. It's like he's acquiring an asset, not welcoming a daughter. That really sets him up as the likely villain of the family drama.
I'm worried about the lack of external plot so far. It's all family drama and internal jokes, which is fun, but I want to know where the story is going. Is there a bigger conflict? Or is it just about surviving her family? I need a hint of a larger story arc.
The emotional tone is cool and calculated for now. I want to see moments where he shows vulnerability, maybe flashbacks to his past life. That would make him more three-dimensional. Right now, he’s competent but a bit distant.
Lin Xueer's transformation after being scratched is genuinely unsettling. I especially like the detail about her avoiding direct sunlight and hiding in dark corners before the full outbreak. Subtle signs that show the infection was already messing with her.
