2 The scene where Jiang Tingfeng talks about "love" and "destiny" made me roll my eyes so hard. He's literally using romantic idealism to justify breaking a binding agreement made by his family. "I never loved her, I only saw her as a sister!" is the most cliché excuse ever. At least own up to the fact that you're a coward who couldn't say no earlier.
The whole "Gluttony" skill system is intriguing. He gets stronger by killing his own kin, which is super dark. The way the Voice of the World praises him for slaughtering other newborns feels so wrong, but that’s the point. It’s a corrupted, brutal world where survival means committing sins. The integration into "Predation" later makes sense progression-wise, but the hunger he feels—both literal and metaphorical—adds a layer of desperation to his actions.
The writing feel is straightforward and engaging, like I’m reading a fan translation with a lot of personality. The phrasing in some parts felt a bit repetitive, like “Mu Fenghua felt” or “she discovered,” but it didn’t bother me because the plot moves so fast. The dialogues, especially Mu Fenghua’s internal curses, feel natural and funny. The description of the womb environment and the spiritual energy flow is vivid enough to make me imagine the warm amniotic fluid. I appreciate that it’s unpretentious and doesn’t drag on with unnecessary details.
Chen Yi’s reaction to finding the bone spike – pretending to be a swordsman, then coughing awkwardly – is such a great character moment. He’s aware he’s alone and still goofs off. That blend of loneliness and self-amusement makes him feel human (even if he’s not). This kind of playful internal scene breaks the tension and makes me smile. I hope he keeps this sense of humor as things get more dangerous.
The part about Jiang Zixuan from the past life really got under my skin. She pretended to be a victim, gained Jiang Fei's trust, then betrayed her and became the guest of honor at her torture session. And then she had the audacity to gloat about the bracelet and say "too bad your tongue is about to be cut off"??? That's cold-blooded manipulator energy right there. No wonder Jiang Fei is so ruthless this time around. Trust is a luxury when your own cousin sold you out to cannibals. I'm honestly waiting for the moment Jiang Fei gets her revenge on that snake.
The author has a tendency to over-describe the male characters' appearances. We get it, they're all super-hot. The "firm eight-pack abs," "V-cut abs," "long, straight legs" – it gets a little repetitive and reads more like a shopping list than a character description. It pulls me out of the story a bit. I wish the author would focus more on their personalities, which are more distinct and interesting than their abs. The peacock's flamboyance and the snake's coldness come through much better.
I'm curious about the Doomsday Special Affairs Office. It's smart that the government set up a secret agency after discovering Heretics. This gives the story a sense of real preparation rather than everyone being clueless.
Xia Chuwei’s plan to seduce Jiang Jinfeng into breaking the contract is already failing epically. She’s relying on pregnancy and sex appeal, but Jiang Jinfeng is clearly a man who values control. His refusal to even sit near her on the bed showed me he’s not going to be swayed easily. I’m actually rooting for her to fail because her smugness in the first chapter annoyed me. The karma of her getting a contractual marriage just like Jiang Zao had in the previous life is poetic.
Meeting Chu Fan was the most emotional part for me. His speech about dreaming of his younger brother begging on the roadside and how he can't help giving money to every beggar… that hit hard. It instantly made me care about the brother. The fact that Chu Qing stays silent despite the longing is painful but necessary for the plot.
