Zeng Xing’s internal monologue about not wanting his father to kick him out was almost humorous in contrast to the violence. Like, he’s more afraid of Dad beating him than causing brain damage to a classmate. That’s how you know he’s just a scared kid playing tough. Still doesn’t excuse him.
The pacing slows down nicely after the hospital. The explanations about beastmen and tamers could have been an info-dump, but it’s given in conversation while Su Yang is processing stuff. The ‘one wife, multiple husbands’ revelation is perfectly timed after she’s already been hit with so much. It’s a good hook for genre fans.
I’m intrigued by the setup for the noodle shop. The decision to switch to noodles feels logical given the system’s recipes. The detail about using bone broth and hand-pulled noodles gives me hope that this restaurant won’t fail. I’m already imagining the smell of double pepper beef noodles.
