The moment she switched the language to Goblin Language and suddenly understood their crude chatter was pure gold. It completely changed the atmosphere from a generic fantasy opening to something uniquely entertaining. Their conversation was hilarious in a dark way, especially when they debated whether skinny humans taste better than fat ones. I couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all.
There's a good mix of show and tell. When Yu Bai remembers her past life tragedies, it's shown in vivid flashes, not just told.
The flashback structure is handled well. We get bits of the past marriage, the drunken accident, and the sister's foreign trip without info-dumps. It's woven into the present action naturally. For example, the KTV memory comes out during a simple conversation about the hangover soup. That's good storytelling—showing instead of telling the backstory.
The “Confession Wall” social media side of the story is handled really well. The way rumors spiral from “he pinned him down and sexually harassed him” to “they were ex-lovers and Xie tried to get back together” to “domineering CEO Xie forced his love” is hyper-realistic for campus rumors. The meta-commentary about “Little Wife Xiao Jiao had eight babies and ran away” made me laugh out loud. It’s a great way to acknowledge the absurdity of the situation without breaking the fourth wall too much. Also, Li Yanqiao’s family being powerful enough that people don’t dare share photos privately is a nice worldbuilding detail. It shows the social dynamics at play. I also like that the main character actually reads these posts and spirals about his reputation. It makes him feel like a real student, not some cool untouchable protagonist.
