The credit card deactivation scene was hilarious. Ling Yan just casually cuts off Murong Xue’s funds without her knowing, and the system rewards him with luck absorption. That’s a clever way to weaken the female lead. I loved how he got 100,000 rule points just for that small act. It makes me wonder what else he can do to drain her luck. The way he keeps the system voice brief without long explanations keeps the pace snappy. No info dumps, just pure action and results.
I really liked the detail about Wei Xing "sewing his clothes with linen cloth" and mixing cyan and yellow. It shows he's trying to adapt and be practical. Also the fact that he dreams of being a lamb bitten by wolves right after – the symbolism is on the nose but effective. He's the prey. And the wolves are the sect hunting him. The dream motifs are consistent, which I appreciate.
The "it" in the darkness asking for water was a fantastic trap. Voice perfectly Mimicking Yang Qu's, the darkness amplifying the fear. But Chi Mu using Rule 2 from Sequence One to text her and confirm was a galaxy brain move. That's exactly the kind of clever loophole abuse I love to see in these rule-based stories.
The writing style is immersive without being overly flowery. Descriptions like “her skin was so pale it was almost transparent, appearing sickly” paint a clear picture of Bei Shi’s fragile beauty. The translation feels clean and natural—I didn’t notice any awkward phrasing that pulled me out of the story. The internal monologues are particularly strong, especially Xiao Nai’s conflicted thoughts.
