That newlywed couple scene hit hard. The wife trying to wake up her husband just to get her face eaten in the first ten seconds. It immediately establishes the stakes and the horror of the new world. Trust no one, especially not your sleeping partner.
Sheng Ze Xi's first appearance through the window is hilarious and also kind of adorable. The guy literally jumps in through her window with a painkiller and a sweet wine poached egg because he remembers she's on her period. It's such an over-the-top, romantic gesture, but it's also very grounded because he went to the county town to get these things after hearing she jumped in the river. His sarcastic and blunt way of talking, calling her stupid and fool, is a great contrast to his caring actions. It makes him feel like a real person, not just a perfect hero.
Old Jin is a fantastic villain because he genuinely believes he’s in the right. He took the life-saving medicine, saw results, then sold out the doctor for a cheaper promise from a big corporation. The self-righteous attitude makes him so hatable. Classic “I’m the victim here” mentality despite actively destroying his own lifeline.
