I'm starting to get annoyed with how easily he's killing them. The zombies are described as weak, even weaker than regular people, and he's taking them out with one hit every time. I need some variety. Maybe a tougher zombie, or a group that actually gives him trouble. Otherwise, the fights will get boring fast.
The relationship between Lu Qing and Xiao Yan is the heart of this opening, and it's really well done. The little girl's immediate joy and tears when her brother wakes up, the way she offers him the steamed bun even though she's clearly hungry herself, it's all very genuine and pulls at your heartstrings. You can feel his determination to take care of her.
One of the best twists so far is that Yan Luo isn't even trying to be flashy or prove herself. She actively avoids showing off, which is smart because in her previous life her Koi Luck was exploited. Now she's acting dumb and letting Chu Yue take the spotlight while secretly setting herself up for success. That's a level of restraint that many protagonists lack. It makes her feel mature and calculated.
I have to admit, the beginning feels a bit like a wish-fulfillment fantasy. The poor, hardworking guy gets dumped by the materialistic girlfriend, screwed over by the evil boss and the scheming colleague, and then receives a magical system that makes his whole life super easy. The power is extremely open-ended and powerful. He can clean pollution and create powerful elixirs. It’s a little too perfect. While this can be fun, it does remove a lot of potential for interesting conflict. Where is the real challenge going to come from now? I'm curious to see if there are any limits or downsides to this power.
The secondary characters—A Guduo, Village Chief Aqi—feel like cardboard thus far. They exist to serve the plot (sheep being stolen, gold being found) but lack personality. The merchant gets more characterization in one scene than these villagers get in multiple. It makes the human scenes less engaging. I'd like to see more distinctive traits, maybe a village drunk or a wise elder.
