The world outside the building is hinted at but not fully explored yet. We see the Blood Moon, the weirdness, the attack on the Flesh Mountain, but we don't know the full scope of what's happening. It's a smart way to keep readers curious and eager for more chapters.
An Ning's character design is visually striking - silver-grey hair, ice-purple eyes, broad shoulders, narrow waist. But him calling himself ugly and a monster broke my heart. The way he automatically assumes modern people would treat him the same because he has "demonic hair" shows how deep his trauma runs. The other members comforting him without understanding the irony - they don't know that purple eyes and silver hair would be considered gorgeous in modern times. I'm already invested in his story and hope Miao Yunyou can help him see his own beauty.
This whole prep montage is giving me anxiety in the best way. The sheer volume of what she's buying - clothes, water tanks, food, vehicles, weapons - and she still feels like it's not enough? That's the survival mindset kicking in. I'd be exhausted just reading about it, let alone doing it.
