The detail about her being completely illiterate in this universe's writing is such a fresh and funny handicap. The system literally gave her a student identity and enrollment but no language skills. Watching her hold a book upside down for an entire class and pretend not to notice is painfully relatable for anyone who's ever been in a class where they're completely lost. It grounds the high-concept fantasy in a very simple, human problem. She's not fighting dragons right now, she's trying to not look stupid in front of a bunch of kids. It's the anti-climax of power fantasy and I love it.
1 Xie Aman is an interesting character so far. She's described as this vibrant, healthy woman from the border, completely different from the delicate capital ladies. I don't hate her yet because the original owner's misery was mostly her own fault for insisting on marriage. But if she turns into a scheming villain just to create conflict, I'm going to be annoyed. I hope the author gives her some actual depth.
The scene where Lin Lang pretends to be heartbroken is chef's kiss. She puts on this whole performance, crying into her handkerchief and everything, but as soon as she's back in her room she's rolling her eyes and telling her maids to spread gossip about Jiang Tingfeng. It's such a clear contrast between the original owner's actual naive love and Lin Lang's calculated manipulation. She's playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers.
2 I’m a little worried about her safety though. She just called out two dangerous women who are capable of murder (in her past life). I hope she’s smart enough to secure allies or get out of that house soon. The tension of being alone in that village is real.
