One thing I admire is that Ziyou isn’t portrayed as all-powerful yet. She knows the general outline of what happened but not every detail. She only suspects her second uncle framed them through letters. And she knows about the ancestral rule or whatever. She has to figure out how to split the family without alerting the enemy. That’s smart writing – she has knowledge but not complete omniscience. It keeps suspense alive. Also, she has no supernatural power yet (the green light might give her something).
Jiang Lingyue is the best character in this excerpt, hands down. She’s curious, kind, and actually treats Lu Ye like a person instead of a stain. Her offering to find him a place and apologizing for the poor arrangements shows she has a conscience. Plus, her teasing with “Brother-in-law Lu Ye” adds a bit of lightness to the heavy drama. I get the feeling she’ll be a key ally later, especially with her potential talent. If she gets into Wuxiang Mountain, she might bridge the gap between Lu Ye and the family. She’s a breath of fresh air compared to her sister.
The herb-gathering expedition is the perfect narrative trigger. It's a known event, but the rising Spirit frequency hints at a bigger problem. Chief Steward Huang being so blunt about it and Huang Quan's cryptic warning about the pig blood create a sense of urgency and unease. The whole "five days of rest" thing felt a bit like a forced training montage, but it works. By the time they actually go into the mountains, Qin Feng will hopefully have his fist technique at a decent level. The question is, will it be enough? The story needs this external threat to provide real stakes for his martial arts growth. Otherwise, it's just a gym.
