I was honestly on the edge of my seat during that opening scene. The way Shen Jingyuan casually kicked her and talked about digging out her spiritual root like it was nothing—I wanted to reach through the screen and punch him. And Si Nansheng's pain felt so visceral, like I could feel every broken bone. The author really nailed the emotions of betrayal and physical suffering.
That scene with the army appearing over the mountain was chilling. The description of it being like a 'black avalanche' was simple but perfect. You could really feel the hopelessness of the situation. 30,000 against maybe 2,000? There's no strategy that saves you from that. The author did a great job of making the threat feel immediate and overwhelming.
I really like how the story kicks off with Gu Jia Ning waking up and her past life memories flooding in. It's such a raw, painful way to start, and you immediately feel for her. That line about the mechanical voice urging her to wake up because the matchmaker is there for Sheng Ze Xi is a great hook. It sets up the central conflict right away: she has this second chance, and now she's got to figure out what to do differently. The way the author shows her regret and hatred from her previous life, but also her determination to change things, feels really genuine. I'm already invested in seeing how she navigates this new timeline.
The dialogue feels natural and to the point. When the girl says “Don’t call the police,” it’s short but loaded. Later, her demand “What… are you?” is aggressive. The protagonist’s calm responses show he’s trying to de-escalate while also probing. Their power dynamic shifts quickly. I like that she doesn’t become instantly grateful or friendly. She’s a fighter.
