Yang Feng is that typical arrogant rich second-generation dude, and I already can't stand him. The way he talks about "his woman" and gets possessive and suspicious – he's a classic stepping stone for the MC. But I did enjoy the moment he asked Han Qianrou about the mud on the bed. That was subtle and awkward. His entrance was cliché ("did you hang up on me? I'm coming over") but it did raise the stakes. I hope Su Chen takes him down next, because he's been on my nerves since he was mentioned.
2 The author has a talent for creating mood. The part where Chang Ming sits in the dark hall, studying Yun Yichu without him knowing, is pure tension. And then the lights flicker on and we see the beauty revealed. It’s a classic reveal, but it works. I also appreciate the contrast between the dark, ominous setting and the playful interactions. It keeps the reader on their toes.
I love the small touches like Shi Feizhe buying an old umbrella and a crooked-mouthed gourd. These details might seem minor, but they add to the realism of a traveler preparing for a long journey. It also shows that the protagonist is learning to think ahead, which is a subtle way to show character growth.
I laughed a little when Maji calmly said “Goblins also like to hoard their loot” right after burying Elki. The juxtaposition of grief and greed is so darkly comedic. These adventurers are so desensitized to death that the only thing they care about is the next payday. It’s a bit sad, but it makes the world feel harsh.
The emotional damage from this story is real. The scene where Xie Yuqing comforts the little boy and girl in the carriage, telling them they are going to a place without war, is heartbreaking. She’s trying so hard to be strong for them while knowing she might die. I feel so bad for Ling Ye, the driver, too. He wanted to stop the carriage and go back for her, but her smile told him to keep going. That’s loyalty. It makes me wonder if we will see Ling Ye or the children in the new timeline. If this is a reincarnation trope, I hope they find her again. The emotional payoff of a reunion with those kids would be ten times better than any plot twist. I’m really hoping the kids survived that escape.
God, the opening with the awakening ceremony was such a classic trope but the execution was actually pretty gripping. I loved how Shen Chi got the worst E-grade light first, making everyone think he was a total failure, only for a massive celestial phenomenon to erupt right after. The description of the ancient battlefield mirage with flags, armor, and bones was genuinely chilling and gave me chills. The contrast between his "useless" talent label and the insane god-tier Nether King awakening was such a satisfying twist. It really hooked me wanting to see what happens next.
