The worldbuilding about the “Rain Rabbit” and how scavengers treat it like a pest made me smile. Calling it “more annoying than rats” and saying it evolved gills to breathe underwater is a cool piece of setting lore. And the fact that its fur is waterproof and valuable? Adds to the realism. Li Yu using his ability to finally catch one turns a nuisance into a resource. That’s good creative problem-solving.
The dialogue feels snappy and natural. Xu Ying's "Since you've fallen in love with him, then go and die with him" is such a dramatic line, but it works because of the context. And Xu Yuan's calm response of "it's against the law to kill someone" shows her evolution from scared to defiant. Good contrast.
The system gave her a prize draw and she got “Cloud-like and Rain-like Fragility” – basically a boost to her shy and delicate demeanor. I’m not sure how I feel about that. On one hand, it’s a clever way to enhance the character for the setting. On the other hand, it feels like cheating, but since it’s clearly shown as a small bonus, I’ll let it slide. I’m curious if there will be more draws later and what other traits she might get.
I have to mention the suitcase scene. It’s absurd and darkly humorous. The protagonist realizes he’s acting like “some deranged sex criminal from an adult story.” That self-awareness is refreshing. The mundane act of dragging a suitcase through a residential area while it contains an unconscious girl heightens the tension. The contrast between the ordinary setting and the extraordinary contents is effective. It’s risky and weird, and I love it.
