All in all, this is a promising start. I’m curious to see where the author takes the story. The combination of isekai, system litRPG, and dark humor is appealing. And the rat protagonist is a breath of fresh air.
Overall this first batch of chapters hooked me completely the coffin birth the pitiful ghost babies the evil consort it's got drama suspense humor and heart I'm definitely continuing this story.
I laughed at Zhao Tie Ying’s comment about using too much oil. Her practical, penny-pinching attitude is so typical of that era. It grounds the story in the 1980s setting. The contrast between her worry and Zhou Yan’s focus on making good food is a nice tension.
Jiuyang’s internal monologue about being old and useless made me laugh out loud. The guy is literally a teenager in this life, but he’s comparing himself to his former Heavenly Master self. That gap between his current limits and past power is a great source of tension.
The way the story uses color and light is great for the atmosphere. The flickering bathroom lights, the red water, the black figure, the darkness of the room after the lights are turned off. It paints a very vivid mental picture of a world that is constantly on the verge of becoming a nightmare.
The car accident scene with the taxi and the Toyota causing Lin to almost miss his flight felt just like real bad luck. I've been there – ready to go, everything aligned, and then some random distraction ruins the timeline. Having Xie Yuchen conveniently pull up next to him in his Koenigsegg at the red light feels like fate being deliberately messy. I both love and hate that the narrative places them together again. It feels manufactured but also satisfying for the enemies-to-lovers development.
2 The sentence “the person from another world returns home” finally made sense, but the delivery was clunky. It felt like the author was just info-dumping the plot twist. I would have preferred a slower reveal.
