Okay but can we talk about Zhou Sui? The guy’s been starved, yoked, shackled, and beaten half to death yet he still manages to swing a saber and take down soldiers like it’s nothing. Total badass energy. I love the dynamic of the frail princess and this broken war god teaming up—it’s got that mismatched buddy action movie vibe. Hope he sticks around and doesn't die a heroic death too soon.
The part where Xu Yan decides to cook the chicken after Li Xuan says "everything is cultivation" shows how easily he can be manipulated. He's so desperate to learn that he interprets mundane tasks as training. That blind devotion makes his eventual disappointment all the more likely. But maybe he'll surprise us.
The pacing of the territory development feels realistic for a start. He has a forge, some goods from the caravan, prisoners for labor, and some followers. But I’m worried about food supply. They only have half a month of dry food now. The tax collection on merchants might save them, but it’s tight.
Small characters like the driver who gave Tang Xu an umbrella and mentioned the snow – nice touch. It shows the mysterious man's influence even in kindness. Also the waiter in the banquet. The world feels populated.
