Ve Fan's skepticism is voiced well. "Is this really the fruit of your years of cultivation?" He is shocked but not completely disbelieving. It feels natural for a guy who is about to be sent to another planet to accept that immortals exist. His character hasn't been ruined by Qi Sheng's presence, which is a common pitfall. He is still the curious, brave, slightly reckless protagonist he was meant to be.
The pacing of this opening chapter is perfect. We get the setup with the birth, the immediate supernatural signs, the family's reaction, and then the introduction of Third Aunt Mo all in one flow. No wasted words, no info dumping.
I’m curious about how the system’s luck mechanic works. So far it’s just mentioned that she needs luck to change her past. But does seducing Xiao Nai and breaking the couple give her luck points? I wish the author explained the rules a bit more in these early chapters. The system’s scolding at the start was fun, but I need clearer stakes to feel the tension of each mission.
I like the friendship/rivalry dynamic between the old Stuart Church and St. John's. It adds a layer of local politics. Miller wants the church land, but he could have just let it collapse. Why does he want it so badly? Maybe the church has a hidden value, like an underground vault or a mystical ley line? Mark's father might have known something. The cross necklace being a centuries-old family heirloom that suddenly became mythic hints that there's more to the Stuart heritage. I'm invested in this backstory.
One minor thing: the chapter packs a lot in a short space. Transmigration, court drama, family exposition, meeting MLs, mystery setup – it's dense. Some readers might feel overwhelmed, but personally I liked the fast start. It hooks you immediately and trusts you to keep up. For a web novel, that's perfect. Slower openings often lose me.
