The backstory about Eld’s stepmother being kind to him while Sandrea got jealous was a nice touch. It shows that the family wasn’t always toxic. It makes Sandrea’s betrayal hit harder because there was a time when things weren’t so bad between them.

The transition to the Ancient Forbidden Land is appropriately terrifying. "When I gaze into the abyss, are the people in the abyss also gazing at me?" is a chilling moment that completely shifts the tone from the humorous Mars heist to the deadly seriousness of the Big Dipper. The author knows exactly when to be funny and when to be scary.
