I appreciate that the story doesn't skip over Beo's weaknesses. He chooses a gun and has Observation Haki talent, but he's still physically weaker and can't even perceive Roger's Haki flow properly. When he tried to lock onto the Armament Haki cannonball, his bullet literally bounced off without exploding. That's a healthy respect for the power system. Even his special Observation Haki has limits: he could copy a basic sword technique from Shanks, but Roger's advanced move is beyond his perception. It makes the training and growth feel more earned. I also like that he uses his brains to avoid direct confrontation—ducking behind Shanks and Buggy during the cannon attack was both funny and practical.
