One small thing that bothers me is how easily Li Xuan accepted a disciple without any real background check. I get that he was tempted by the gold and medicine, but what if Xu Yan's family comes looking and investigates? His plan to flee to Wu Kingdom is smart, but the risk is real. Hopefully the story addresses that later.
One thing I haven’t mentioned: the title of the novel or what it’s called – the text says nothing, but based on the vibe, it feels like a modern fantasy/mystery serial. If there’s a tagline or series name that hints at Wufang Valley, that would help. As it is, I just call it “Wu Yin’s Fortune Telling Adventures” in my head.
That scene with the cavalry charge in the second timeline is haunting. "The hooves of the charging horses filled his vision." It's such a visceral way to end a life. No heroic last stand, no final speech. Just a terrifying, impersonal death. It really sells the futility of his 3,000 amateur soldiers against 20,000 veterans.
The romance potential is clearly being set between the MC and Su Su, not with Fang Qingxue. The MC gave up the marriage contract, so now he's free. Su Su is single, lives next door, and they have chemistry. Fang Qingxue is still in the picture as the ex-fiancée, but her role is still uncertain. I'm rooting for Su Su.
The system’s merit points and store mechanics interest me. It gives a goal beyond just killing monsters. The note that merit can be earned by acting according to the Great Dao suggests there may be righteous quests. This adds a bit of moral choice, which I hope the author explores. So far, Zhang seems to enjoy the rewards of fighting, so that should be fun.
