This novel feels like a love letter to the isekai genre but also a parody of it. You have the transmigration, the found family, a protagonist with a funny special skill (lightness skill only), and a supportive system-like entity. But it subverts expectations by bringing the ancient setup to modern times instead of the other way around. The humor is self-aware, the emotional beats land, and the characters are distinct. I'd totally read more to see how the cult adapts to modern life, and whether Miao Yunyou will ever reunite with her sister.
My one tiny critique is the scene transitions. Sometimes we jump from the kitchen to the alchemist shop without much connective tissue. A few more sentences of travel or reflection would smooth things out. But honestly, the content is so good that I barely notice while reading.
I’m a little suspicious of how easily Su Yuan accepted becoming a security guard after just a few minutes of learning the fork technique. In reality, you’d need some sort of license or at least a basic training period, but this world seems casual about employment. The text mentions he has a flying fork of his own too, from Uncle Wang. It feels a bit too convenient, but I guess it’s a comedy so you roll with it. The fact that the job pays 60 yuan an hour and he’s thrilled about it is such a student thing, very relatable.
The world's history through the Three Shines is fascinating. It seems that humans on Earth only gained access to Yuan Qi 1,110 years ago, which means civilization has been developing with cultivation for just a millennium. Then the overlapping worlds caused plane wars and pioneering. Now there are gods, titan beasts, savage kings, and demonic monsters invading Earth. That's a very different setting from the usual "ancient secret cultivation world" trope. It feels more like a sci-fantasy with dimensional portals. I'm curious whether the "Silver Moon" is a literal moon or a celestial object, and whether more Shines are expected.
The Scholar class seems underdog material – weak at first but with crafting and knowledge it can scale. Su Ran using scrolls to compensate for slow casting is smart. I want to see more craft-based solutions.
