The hotel room scene where Wen Tiantian confronts Xia Xiaonuan is tense and dramatic. The way she bursts in and immediately slaps Xia Xiaonuan is so satisfying. She doesn't pause to reason or negotiate; she just takes control of the narrative. By accusing Xia Xiaonuan of taking advantage of Chu Jin's drunkenness, she completely reverses the plot and makes Xia Xiaonuan look guilty.
I love how the story doesn't take itself too seriously. It's full of dramatic moments like the Punishment Hall scene, but then undercuts them with humor. The whack-a-mole scene with Jiang Que smashing the rogue cultivators was ridiculous and perfect.
I appreciate that the revenge plot isn't just about petty squabbles. Shen Sangning has legitimate grievances from her previous life. Pei Che treated her badly at first, her mother-in-law was a nightmare, Shen Miaoyi ruined her original marriage. The foundation for the conflict is solid, so when she starts making moves, it feels justified and satisfying, not just catty.
The midwife is a minor character, but her potential testimony is important. It shows that Yun An'an has witnesses on her side.
I like the little detail about the betrothal gift of one million taels of silver. It instantly establishes how obsessed the original Lin Yi was with Luo Qingyu, and how much financial power he had. When he threatens to divorce her but only after consummating, it’s a huge shock to her system because she thought she had him wrapped around her finger. The money isn’t just background info; it’s a weapon. Lin Yi uses it to remind her that he bought her, which is cruel but effective in establishing the new balance of power.
