I love how the story doesn’t waste time on boring details. Three years pass in a paragraph, but you still get a good sense of Xi Lin’s growth. The quick cuts to Imperial Physician Jiang’s salty life made me chuckle. He just wants to be a normal doctor but gets wrapped up in this family drama—pretty relatable.
The use of cell phones and modern technology alongside cultivation concepts is jarring but interesting. They call each other on phones to transfer money instantly, but also talk about immortal realms and spirit induction. It’s like urban fantasy lite. The execution could be smoother – for example, why does Luo Yingxue need to call for 30 million if she has supernatural power? But maybe she hides her abilities for now.
Nanny Liu’s lecture about marrying Mei Silang is infuriating. The hypocrisy of the family using Chu You as a replacement for Chu Yuning is galling. I’m glad Zhan Qiu uses that eye powder on her—deserved.
The character of Skinny Monkey is a great sidekick. He's short, funny, plays handheld games under the desk, and is clearly nervous about awakening but tries to act cool. His worry is genuine – "Chu Qiu, aren't you afraid?" – and Chu Qiu's confident but vague answers help both of them. Their dynamic feels like real teenage friendship. I hope Skinny Monkey gets a decent awakening and doesn't become comic relief forever.
