The golden light flickering in his eyes and the Reincarnation Lamp switching on felt like a typical Xianxia trope dump. I half-expected a system notification to pop up. If you’re gonna do a transmigration, at least lean into it instead of throwing every cultivation cliché at once.
I honestly have mixed feelings about Zhou Zhijun. Is he the love interest or the villain? The scene in the melon shed is genuinely terrifying. He is physically overpowering her and she is crying. But then he just stops. I get that he is supposed to be this brooding, tortured hero, but he is walking a really, really fine line. I am watching closely to see if the story romanticizes this or clearly condemns it.
I’m actually curious if Xi Yang will take revenge on Zeng Xing and Xu Jia soon. The story hinted at it when he said “I’ll make you experience the wrath of an immortal,” but then he just focused on cultivation and groceries. The slow-burn approach might work, but I hope it doesn’t drag.
I absolutely adore this novel! Initially, I found myself detesting the Male Lead; his character had so many flaws that made it hard to sympathize with him. However, as the story progressed, he has truly started to grow on me. While I can't entirely dismiss my reservations about him having multiple wives, especially considering the historical context in which the novel is set, my primary frustration stemmed from the way he initially treated the Female Lead. But to my pleasant surprise, his character arc has taken a delightful turn! It’s both heartwarming and amusing to see him making earnest efforts to win her affections, and witnessing the dynamic between them shift has been a joy to read. The humor in their interactions adds an entertaining layer to their developing relationship. And let's not forget about the food! Every time I dive into a chapter, I find myself craving the various dishes described so vividly that it feels like I can almost taste them. The author has done a fantastic job of painting a picture that appeals to the senses. Furthermore, I must commend the Translator for their exceptional work! Their skillfully crafted translations enhance the reading experience, making the characters and their world come alive. Overall, this novel has captured my heart, and I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds!
