So the first "try" ended because of Marquis Ragna, an ambitious land grab. But the second timeline ending because Crain accidentally became a rival for a creepy Count who wants to marry an eight-year-old? That is so darkly absurd. It’s a completely different kind of threat, and it shows the world is complex. One enemy isn't the only problem.
I really liked the sister Avian's reaction to Li Er's hug. This big tough knight captain flustered by family affection shows she's not all business. It adds warmth to the story that balances out the dark scenes with the princess. Without her, the atmosphere might be too bleak.
The second excerpt ends with a scene of the protagonist in despair, covering his face and lying on bed, ignoring calls. This moment of defeat after the school humiliation feels genuine. The counselor’s line about losing scholarship is a serious consequence that grounds the comedy. It’s good that the author doesn’t let Xie escape without repercussions. Also, Zhao’s laughter at his misfortune from the scarecrow form adds to the feeling that he has no allies in his misery. But then they have a tender moment when Zhao laments about wanting a body, and Xie says he’s saving money. It hints that beneath the banter, Xie is not just a reckless party boy. The ability to show vulnerability and loyalty in brief beats makes me care about their quest. The scene ends with mention of rain and warm yellow light from dusk to dawn, which is a nice atmospheric close that signals a new phase.
I like that the story doesn't make Qingcheng a perfect saint either. When she asks Gu Ruyi “Are you scared to see me back?” she's openly hostile. After three years of torture, she has every right to be angry and suspicious. Her bitterness feels earned, not melodramatic. I respect that the author lets her be flawed.
The MC's modern medical knowledge is a game changer for Wei Chengyi. The Emperor and the doctors think he has seven days to live, but the MC already knows she can treat him. It puts all the power in her hands. She is literally the only person who can keep the war god alive. This gives her so much leverage in the relationship and the plot. She holds his life in her hands, and she is going to use that leverage well.
I’m curious how the system will evolve now that he’s in the Spirit Realm. The sign-in already gave him Spirit Energy and a Spirit Treasure on his first try, which is a massive step up from the lower world. It suggests that the system scales with the world itself. If he could dominate the lower realm with daily login bonuses, his potential here is absolutely terrifying. It also makes me wonder if the system is tied to the Heavenly Dao or the rules of the universe. There’s definitely more to it than just random gacha, and I hope the story explores that later.
Xie Yuanbo is an interesting side character. He's the original fiance, but he doesn't seem like a bad person. He looked conflicted when Qiao Wantang came to see the third brother. The author even mentions that he valued Qiao Wantang's looks more, which is shallow but human. The fact that he's holding a purse embroidered with begonias that the original host gave him suggests there might have been some mutual feelings or at least goodwill. Now she's marrying his brother, and he has to act normal. I wonder if there will be drama later or if he'll fade into the background.
