The reading experience is engaging. I started reading and didn't stop until I finished the provided excerpt. The blend of drama and comedy keeps things interesting. I do want to know more about Regis's magical training and his mother, Sefina. The cliffhangers work well.

I nearly dropped the novel when the scavenger merchant arc dragged. Multiple mishaps before the betrayal felt repetitive. But once they woke up on the grass field, the pace picked up again. It needs tighter editing; the middle of that flashback sagged.
