The final showdown in the police station where Qin Zhen shows up? That's a great introduction to a new character. He's even more arrogant than Shen Muyan, and he clearly knows Zhao Yi's husband. The fact that he sides with Shen Zhiyin and the old man immediately, without even hesitating, suggests he might be an ally later. I'm looking forward to seeing how he fits into the larger plot, especially if the driver situation escalates.
I am so glad she didn't go full 'I hate girly things'. She admits she had a 'sparkly girl' phase and loved the dresses and jewels. She just likes exploring and explosions more. It makes her feel like a real person with varied tastes, not a one-note anti-noble trope.
Overall, this opening chapter does everything right for a progression fantasy: establishes a relatable protagonist, introduces a cheat power with a wink, presents a clear goal (survive 30 days and grow), and ends with a cliffhanger of the trial battle. I’m definitely invested and want to see how Su Ye handles the rest of the Abyss trial and the other lords. The only worry is balancing, but I trust the author to throw in some challenges (like limited resources or other OP lords) to keep tension.
The romance potential is tangled with the power imbalance. The prince can barely move and the mc is his only caretaker. That’s a recipe for dependency, not love. I hope the story acknowledges that and works toward a more equal dynamic. Maybe if she heals him enough that he can stand, their relationship could shift. Right now any romantic development would feel weird given how helpless he is.
The balance between internal monologue and action is good. During the exploration of the construction site, we get his thoughts about wanting adventure. During the confrontation with the girl, his thoughts are more strategic. This keeps the story moving while building character. The first-person perspective makes every observation and decision personal.
2 I like how the Beastkin who came from a country with discrimination didn’t automatically hate all humans. He was anxious but gave Charlotte a chance. That’s realistic growth. Not every victim of prejudice becomes bitter. Some seek better places.
The fake cultivation method Li Xuan creates has a surprisingly logical structure. Refining the Skin, Bones, Organs, then Bone-Shaking Thunder and Qi and Blood as a Gan. It sounds like a real system. I can see why Xu Yan believes it. The author clearly put thought into making it plausible even as nonsense.
