2 The dialogue feels natural. Lin Meng talks like a frustrated young person, and Ye Heng talks like a tired, experienced survivor. Their tones are distinct. You can hear their different backgrounds in their words. “Hello, I am the owner of this space” vs. “Handsome Ye, could you do me a favor?” Perfect contrast.
30. Overall, I think this is a really solid start. The tropes are familiar but executed with good pacing and emotional depth. I just hope the revenge is satisfying and doesn’t get bogged down in too much melodrama. So far, it’s hitting all the right notes for a binge read.
Characters in this genre often make decisions that don't make sense. But here, when Song Yaoshi falls asleep because she thinks Xiao Ziqian is busy with Lin Rou'er, that's perfectly in character. She's tired from transmigrating, she's checked out of the marriage—of course she naps.
Song Yaoshi's "I don't depend on the client for a living anymore" internal monologue about husbands versus fathers as resources perfectly summarizes her worldview shift. She's stopped seeing Xiao Ziqian as her problem because she has bigger allies now. The Emperor is just another "client" to manage well.
The stepmother Qin Yun is that kind of sly character you love to hate. Her fake concern, the way she kneels to make Gu Chen look bad, the whole “python swallowing sparrow” metaphor? Chilling. She’s obviously been pulling strings to ruin the eldest son so her own kid can shine. I hope Gu Chen gets back at her hard in future chapters.
