Reading about Gu Jia Ning's period pain in detail is a bold choice. Many stories skip over it. Including it brings a sense of realism and vulnerability. It's a bodily function that affects her plan. It makes her more human. It also allows for Sheng Ze Xi to show his caring side in a very practical way. It's a win-win for character development.
I have to admit, the dialogue in the chat channel felt a bit exposition-heavy. The veteran players talking about “newbie protection periods” and “snatching newcomers” was clearly meant to explain the rules to us readers. But honestly, I didn’t mind it too much because the information was useful. It just felt a little unnatural for them to be so open.
Zhao De is a perfect scumbag villain. He's so greasy. Bidding on a girl right in front of her boyfriend is a bold but stupid move. I hope this isn't the last we see of him because I want him to get beaten up more.
The shelter system is wild. A toilet cubicle as a safe room? I laughed out loud. The description of the cramped space, like a cheap Hong Kong hotel, was so vivid. It’s realistic that resources are minimal—just three nutrient solutions and a kettle. The pressure’s on immediately. The fact that doors can be damaged and you’re ejected? That’s brutal. No wonder she activated the peephole quick.
The MC’s internal monologue about “Full of Scoundrels” instead of “Full of Love Courtyard” shows he knows the original story. As a fan of the original series, I appreciate that the author is leaning into the dark side of the source material. The paragraph where he decides to play with the animals if they provoke him sets the tone—this is a power fantasy, but a justified one.
Liu San’s death was honestly shocking. I was expecting Shi Feizhe to somewhow escape or be saved, but having him actually kill a seasoned gang member with a desperate sword qi outburst was bold and satisfying. The fact that the True Qi worked despite the manual being considered trash is a great twist, and it leaves me wondering if it’s a fluke or if there’s something special about the protagonist.
Zhang Yang’s backstory is a bit of a blank slate. Orphan, rich, scientist parents who died in an experiment. It feels very much like an Isekai protagonist template. I really hope the mystery of the green injection and the ‘bloodthirst’ disease gets explored later because right now he is just a meat-eating machine.
